UnLocal values education as a tool for advocacy and strives to empower immigrant communities by connecting them with key resources.

We prioritize mutual education as a learning tool to collaborate with our partners and community members to create accessible presentations, webinars, clinics, and events.

We intend to destigmatize any misconceptions of immigration law and the socio-political narrative that accompanies it.

Community Programs

Community and Connection Series

​​The Community and Connections Series is a project that supports undocumented youth and community members who are interested in community building, resources for navigating career paths, skill based educational opportunities, and/or higher education.

The CCS consists of skill building activities to support participants’ educational journeys and career aspirations. Our programming includes community building through art exploration, shared meals, professional development, and discussions. This series serves as a powerful tool for networking and a space to learn from people who share similar immigration experiences.

The CCS is open to all undocumented youth, working professionals, high school students, and college students.

Theater Circle

The UnLocal Theater Circle is specially curated for those who need a creative space to participate in collaborative creation. The UnLocal Education and Outreach team has teamed up with company of theater makers, A Laboratory for Actors Training (ALAT), to hold space for our communities as we read plays, get to know playwrights, engage in theater practices and dismantle themes and conversations with a Race, Class, Power and Privilege perspective. We prioritize undocumented, immigrant, and first generation people, and concentrate on narratives and stories that we want people to know. This season, we are focusing on our 10th year anniversary theme, Building Prosperity by implementing theater practices that will lead us into conversations of the importance of documenting and telling each other our stories of joy, and the place joy takes in building People Power.

Swaps

The UnLocal swaps are meet-ups where community members can bring seasonal items in new or good condition. Each swap will have a set theme that will be announced on social media as a focus for that month, for example school supplies in August/September, coats in November/December. 

Participants are able to go home with new items, declutter their homes, and save money. Donations are not required to participate in these swaps! Participants are welcome to come and take whatever it is that they need.

Markets

Our UnLocal markets and festivals host food vendors, small businesses, galleries, and communities who need physical space to share their creations. UnLocal aims to make space for our vendor community to highlight the importance of food and culture, as they hold, create and are a main source of happiness and preservation for the communities they serve. Markets take place about 2-3 times a year and opportunities to participate will be announced via social media.

Keep Connected

Student Resource Hub

The Student Resource Hub is a monthly newsletter created for students, youth, families, and educators to share resources across our networks. This newsletter will include scholarship and internship opportunities, New York State Dream Act updates, skill development programs, and educational events offered by UnLocal and our partners.

Partner Outreach Call

UnLocal hosts a bi-monthly convening of educators, school staff, non-profit professionals, and service providers to inform participants on relevant federal and state immigration updates, and NYC social service changes. These calls provide a space for our partners to directly forward any questions from their respective communities and learn about UnLocal’s upcoming programming.
